The 2018 LCN Nurse Faculty Survey and the 2018 LCN Nurse Faculty Survey Infographic
The 2018 LCN Nurse Faculty Survey and the 2018 LCN Nurse Faculty Survey Infographic have been completed and submitted to the Health Works Commission. The report revealed that:
* The majority of nurse faculty indicated that they believe there is indeed a nurse faculty shortage in Louisiana: 65% of the LPN faculty, 78% of the RN faculty, and 82% of the graduate faculty;
* 49% of nurse faculty plan to leave their current positions in five years and 63% plan to leave in ten years,
* 73% of all nurse faculty teaching across programs indicated that their workload had increased due to the nurse faculty shortage;
* 64% of nurse faculty across all programs reported being dissatisfied with their salary/compensation;
* 30% or more of nurse faculty across all programs reported dissatisfaction with their workload, opportunities for career advancement, and support given by college/school for faculty research;
* 57% of all nurse faculty responding to the survey indicated that they would be likely to leave their current academic institution because of retirement and 45% indicated that they would be likely to leave for more compensation;
* As satisfaction with job security/tenure prospects, flexibility to balance work and family, recognition of performance, and school support for professional growth of faculty decreases among LPN and RN faculty, there is a significant increase in their likelihood to leave their current position in one year.
